Waterproof Jewelry

Waterproof jewelry is jewelry you can wear in everyday life – even when it gets wet – without it rusting, discolouring or turning your skin green. At Liamoré, every piece is made from rust-free stainless steel, and our gold styles are additionally gold-plated. Here we answer the most common questions about waterproof jewelry.

What makes stainless steel jewelry waterproof?

Stainless steel forms a thin, invisible protective layer on its surface that shields the metal from rust and oxidation. That's why stainless steel barely reacts to water, soap or sweat. Unlike fashion jewelry made from brass or basic alloys, it doesn't discolour in everyday life and won't leave green marks on your skin.

Can you shower with stainless steel jewelry?

Yes. You can keep your stainless steel jewelry on in the shower and while washing your hands – it won't rust or discolour. To keep it shining for as long as possible, we recommend briefly drying it with a soft cloth afterwards and rinsing off any shower gel or soap residue.

Can I wear waterproof jewelry swimming or in the sea?

Short contact with pool or sea water won't harm stainless steel. However, we don't recommend prolonged contact with chlorine or salt water, or heavy sweating, as these put more strain on the gold plating over time. It's best to take your jewelry off before swimming and rinse it with clean water afterwards.

Does stainless steel jewelry tarnish or turn black?

No. Stainless steel doesn't tarnish in everyday wear and won't turn black in the shower. That's what sets it apart from 925 sterling silver, which darkens over time and needs regular polishing.

Is stainless steel jewelry suitable for sensitive skin?

High-quality stainless steel is considered skin-friendly and is well tolerated by most people, even with sensitive skin. If you have a known nickel allergy, we recommend testing a new piece briefly before wearing it all day.
